A tough outing against Hampton on the road put the Pirates to the test.

Hampton demonstrated their top-four quality from the opening bounce, utilising elite speed, cleanliness by foot, and fast corridor transition to put the Pirates under fierce heat. The boys fought hard in the engine room but simply couldn't match the home sides blistering pace in the first half, as Hampton piled on 12 unanswered goals and facing the boys with a daunting 71–0 deficit at the main break.

Rather than throwing in the towel after a brutal opening two terms and sending everyone behind the ball, the Pirates’ brought renewed grit and intensity out of the long break. The young guns seized the opportunity to shine under the spotlight, with debutants and emerging talents Casper, Scruff, and Liam providing exciting glimpses of a fast, highly skilful future. Supported by the likes of Darcy, Jesse, and Stoney the debutants proved that the cintest was ultimately about gaining valuable experience for the road ahead rather than just the four points.

The Pirates' persistence finally translated into results on the scoreboard in the third term. Jesse broke away through the middle of the ground, delivering a pinpoint ball to Hoc, who snapped the Pirates' first major of the afternoon.

Defensively, Cobba stood tall across half-back under a mountain of pressure, continually cutting off Hampton’s attacks. Taking his electric form to a new level, Craig Sanders put on a clinic in the middle, battling relentlessly and racking up a huge stack of clearances. Jesse Somdecerff also provided crucial drive all game, once again among the best players on a tough day out.

While Hampton eventually ran out convincing 152–14 victors, the determination shown by the younger Pirates under pressure provided plenty of confidence for the future.

The boys will now regroup and prepare for a massive home clash at the Harry Mac next week against Fitzroy, where the club will gather to celebrate its Life Members.
